I can barely communicate with hearing people who don't understand that I'm deaf with speech and I can't communicate with actual deaf people like me. It was the same with my Dad he was taken to hospital by ambulance and because of covid restrictions I couldn’t go with him or visit him. He was in hospital for two days without anyone to communicate with him . I repeatedly phoned up asked for him to have a BSL interpreter for him unfortunately one never materialised. One day I got a phone call to say that I could visit him as he had only days left . I went to visit him and he passed away within 20 mins of me arriving. It still upsets me to think of my dad in hospital alone without anyone to communicate with . He wouldn’t have known what was going on , what wrong with him or any options for treatment, he would have felt very isolated and lonely. Something needs to be done to stop this discrimination against deaf people .S
